The Shaolin system as taught today is comprised of more than fifty styles and nine hundred forms. From this enormous body of material, today’s Shaolin-Do practitioners receive a broad-based martial arts education that covers the entire spectrum of martial arts philosophy and technique. The Shaolin-Do curriculum teaches its practitioners sound fundamentals and provides each practitioner with the appropriate mental and physical challenge for their level of training.
Bob comments that it is wonderful to be able to achieve this goal. He has been practicing 10-12 times a week over the last two and a half years to be prepared for this test. He highly recommends martial arts to anyone looking to add discipline, hard work and conditioning of the body and spirit to their lives. “This has done wonders not only for me physically but for the stress relief in my life in trying to build three businesses.” Says Bob.
Shaolin-Do is the most complete and comprehensive martial arts system in the world. Upon completion of the lower belt and 1st degree black belt curriculum, the Shaolin-Do student has a minimum of 27 long forms through which they have studied a variety of techniques such as short forms, sparring techniques, self-defense, tiger, crane, hawk, staff, short stick, nunchaku, broadsword, sai, and kwan dao. The student now has the conditioning, material knowledge, and sparring foundation to be considered a disciple, or serious “beginner”, and will continue to study a wide variety of styles and techniques that not only produce a well rounded martial artist, but also an extraordinarily well conditioned body and mind.
Bob studies under the instruction of Master Don Duncan (5th degree Black Belt /Black Sash), Owner and Head Instructor of Shaolin-Do Kung Fu and Tai Chi school located in Round Rock Texas (www.texaskungfu.com). Master Duncan is a student of Grandmaster Sin Kwang Thé, 10th degree Grandmaster of the Shaolin-Do system in the United States.
Bob comments that there are many analogies between martial arts and with business in general and recruiting specifically. For instance, like in recruiting, understanding, working on and repeating the basics are the building blocks necessary to make you successful. Bob plans to continue his Kung Fu training and looks forward to one day achieving his 2nd degree Black Belt. His ultimate goal is to become a Master (6th degree Black Belt) and one day become and instructor as well. To achieve 6th degree will require approximately 20 more years of intensive dedicated study. Bob says that will make a wonder 70th birthday present!
