Mentor, Ohio is a vibrant suburban city in Lake County, nestled on the southern shore of Lake Erie, about 25 miles northeast of Cleveland. Mentor was first settled in 1797 by Charles Parker, who built a cabin near Mentor Marsh, marking the area’s earliest European settlement. The township was organized in 1815 and named either after an early settler, Hiram Mentor, or the wise counselor from Homer’s Odyssey.
